Fuel Tank: Removal

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Cables - 2.7L EcoBoost (238kW/324PS) .
If equipped, remove the nuts and the skid plate.
Torque

: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

Using a powertrain lift, support the fuel tank. Use Special Service Tool: 300-OTC1585AE Powertrain Lift.
Remove the clamp and position aside the fuel filler pipe.
Torque

: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

- Remove the bolts.
  Torque
  
  : 35 lb.ft (47 Nm)
- Remove the fuel tank straps.

Lower the tank to gain access to fuel supply and Vapor tube quick release coupling.
Disconnect the fuel feed and vapor tube quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

- Disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe vent tube quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Disconnect the electrical connectors and release the harness retainer clip.

Remove the fuel tank.

If the fuel tank is being replaced, remove the fuel pump and sender unit and drain the fuel tank using the fuel tanker. Refer to: Fuel Pump and Sender Unit .
Use Special Service Tool: 292-00004 Fuel Tanker 100 GPM.
