- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The SECM is self-monitoring and performs several self-tests during vehicle start up, shutdown and while operating. If an error occurs which affects the adaptive steering system operation, but not occupant safety, the system engages the adaptive steering lock and sends a message to the instrument cluster to illuminate the yellow adaptive steering warning indicator. It is possible the steering wheel may not be straight when the vehicle is driven straight ahead.
Possible Sources
- Adaptive steering system failure
- Lost communication with the IPC
- An airbag deployment or fuel cutoff event has occurred
- V1 CHECK FOR DTCS IN THE SECM
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve and record all SECM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present and active in the SECM?
Yes DIAGNOSE all SECM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). GO to the DTC Chart: Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart . No GO to V2 - V2 CHECK FOR AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND FUEL SHUT OFF ENGAGEMENT
- Verify if the vehicle has been in a recent collision which resulted in the deployment of the driver airbag or the engagement of the fuel system shut off.
Has the airbag been deployed or the fuel shut off engaged?
Yes RESTORE the systems to their correct operation and INSTALL NEW or REPAIR any supplemental restraint system.
