Shock Absorber and Spring Assembly - Vehicles With: Dynamic Suspension: Removal

NOTE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.

Measure the distance from the center of the hub to the lip of the fender with the vehicle in a level, static ground position (curb height).

Remove the wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
Remove and discard the shock absorber and spring assembly upper nuts.

NOTE: The front suspension height sensor must be disconnected from the upper control arm prior to servicing suspension components or damage to the suspension height sensor and/or the vehicle dynamic suspension system may occur. The sensor will need to be recalibrated after reassembly.
- Disconnect the height sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the bolt and detach the height sensor arm from the upper control arm.

NOTE: Do not use a hammer to separate the outer tie-rod end from the wheel knuckle or damage to the wheel knuckle may result.

NOTE: Use care when installing the tie rod separator or damage to the outer tie-rod end boot may occur.

Remove and discard the tie rod end nut and separate the tie rod end from the wheel knuckle.

Remove and discard the upper arm ball joint nut.

NOTE: Be sure not to damage the ball joint boot when installing the Ball Joint Separator.

Separate the upper arm ball joint from the wheel knuckle.

Use Special Service Tool: 204-592 Separator, Lower Arm Ball Joint.

- Disconnect the shock absorber and spring assembly electrical connector.
- Detach the shock absorber and spring assembly wiring harness clip from the frame.

1. Remove the brake hose bracket bolt and position the brake hose bracket aside.
2. NOTE: Do not use power tools to remove the stabilizer bar link nut. Damage to the stabilizer bar link ball joint or boot may occur.
  
  NOTE: The stabilizer bar links are designed with low friction ball joints that have a low breakaway torque.
  
  NOTE: Use the TORX PLUS® holding feature to prevent the ball stud from turning while removing or installing the stabilizer bar link nut. Torx® and TORX PLUS® is a reg. tm of Acument Intellectual Properties, LLC.
  
  Remove and discard the front stabilizer bar link upper nut and position the stabilizer bar link aside.

Remove and discard the shock absorber and spring assembly lower nuts.

1. Lower the lower arm and wheel knuckle assembly.
2. Remove the shock absorber and spring assembly.
