Possible Causes

Harness Side

Circuit Pin
  1. CP1: CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK 
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Press the Read Vehicle Information button to view the results of the modules communicating on the network.
    • Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs.
    • Does the ABS module pass the network test? 
      Yes No
      Go to  CP2. DIAGNOSE the ABS module does not communicate with the diagnostic scan tool. REFER to the Module Communications Network article.
  2. CP2: CHECK THE ABS MODULE VOLTAGE SUPPLY 
    • Measure the voltage between:
      (+) 12 Volt Vehicle Battery (-) 12 Volt Vehicle Battery
      Positive terminal Negative terminal
    • Record the battery voltage.
    • Ignition OFF.
    • ABS_A Module connector disconnected.
    • ABS_B Module connector disconnected.
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Measure the voltage between:
      (+) ABS_A Module Connector, Harness Side (-)
      VLVPWR Ground
      IGN START/RUN Ground
      PUMPPWR Ground
    • Measure the voltage between:
      (+) ABS_B Module Connector, Harness Side (-)
      VLVPWR Ground
      IGN START/RUN Ground
      PUMPPWR Ground
    • Is each voltage within 0.2 volt of the recorded battery voltage? 
      Yes No
      Go to  CP3. VERIFY all ABS fuses in the BCM-C are OK. REFER to the Vehicle Dynamic Systems wiring diagrams for fuse information.
      If the fuses are OK, REPAIR the circuit.
      If the fuses are not OK, REFER to the OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction article to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  3. CP3: VERIFY ABS MODULE GROUND CONNECTIONS 
    NOTE: Refer to the Grounds wiring diagrams article for ground connection information.
    • Disconnect all ABS module ground joint connections. Refer to the Grounds wiring diagrams article for ground information.
      • Discard the bolts.
    • Inspect the ground joint connections for:
      • Rust
      • Corrosion
      • Other foreign material
      • Cross-threaded fasteners
    • Clean or repair the ground joint connections as necessary.
    • Connect all ABS module ground joint connections. Make sure the connections are clean, tight and not cross threaded.
      • Install new bolts and tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
    • Measure the resistance between:
      • Each ground joint bolt.
      • The battery negative cable terminal.
    • Are the measured resistances less than 1 Ohm? 
      Yes No
      Go to  CP4. CLEAN or REPAIR the ground joint connection.
      Go to  CP4.
  4. CP4: CHECK THE ABS MODULE GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Disconnect and Connect in the Battery, Mounting and Cables article.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      (+) ABS_A Module Connector, Harness Side (-)
      LOGICGND Ground
      PUMPGND Ground
    • Measure the resistance between:
      (+) ABS_B Module Connector, Harness Side (-)
      LOGICGND Ground
      PUMPGND Ground
    • Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 
      Yes No
      Go to  CP5. REPAIR the circuit.
  5. CP5: CHECK THE HS-CAN2 CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    • GWM connector disconnected. (C2431)
    • Measure the resistance between:
      (+) ABS_A Module Connector, Harness Side (-) GWM (C2431) Connector, Harness Side
      HS-CAN2- HS-CAN2-
      HS-CAN2+ HS-CAN2+
    • Measure the resistance between:
      (+) ABS_B Module Connector, Harness Side (-) GWM (C2431) Connector, Harness Side
      HS-CAN2- HS-CAN2-
      HS-CAN2+ HS-CAN2+
    • Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 
      Yes No
      Go to  CP6. REPAIR the circuit.
  6. CP6: RECHECK THE ABS MODULE DTCS 
    • ABS_A Module connector connected. Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.
    • ABS_B Module connector connected. Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.
    • GWM connector connected. (C2431) Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Clear the ABS DTCs.
    • Put the ABS module in sleep mode by performing the following steps:
      • With ALL doors closed, set the ignition from ON to OFF.
      • Disconnect the diagnostic scan tool.
      • Open the door, exit the vehicle and close the door.
      • Wait a minimum of 90 seconds for the ABS module to enter sleep mode.
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.

      Carry out the ABS self-test.

    • Do any of the DTCs in the Fault Trigger Conditions Table return? 
      Yes No
      INSTALL a new EBB assembly.
      The HCU and ABS module are a single assembly known as the EBB unit.
      CHECK OASIS for any service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA.
      If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions.
      If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new EBB unit (HCU and ABS module assembly).
      REFER to the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Stability Control article.
      ORDER a replacement EBB unit and INCLUDE the RVC on the form.
      If this is a Ford paid repair, INCLUDE the RVC on the warranty claim form.
      The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
