Pinpoint Tests Purpose

To verify PSCM U2300 is present and provide diagnostics if DTC U2300 is currently present and active in the PSCM.

NOTE: If a damaged bellows boot(s) was discovered during Inspection and Verification and this pinpoint test DOES NOT lead to the installation of a new EPAS gear or bellows boot(s), then go to PINPOINT TEST K  to address the damaged boot(s) before returning the vehicle to the customer.
  1. AB1: CHECK VEHICLE HISTORY 
    • Check the vehicle history for recent service actions related to the:
      • PSCM
      • Steering gear
      • Steering column
      • Electronic steering actuator
    • Have there been any recent service actions related to the components listed above? 
      Yes No
      REPEAT the PMI procedure as directed by the diagnostic scan tool or CONFIGURE the PSCM using vehicle as-built data. Go to  AB2.
  2. AB2: VERIFY THE PSCM DTC 
    • Clear the PSCM DTCs.
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Wait at least 90 seconds for the modules to completely shut off.
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.

    Carry out the PSCM self-test.

    • Does DTC U2300:xx return? 
      Yes No
      Go to  AB3. The condition causing the DTC is not present at this time.
  3. AB3: VERIFY PSCM CONFIGURATION 
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, configure the PSCM. Refer to the Module Configuration article.
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Wait at least 90 seconds for the modules to completely shut off.
    • Ignition ON, engine running.

    Carry out the PSCM self-test.

    • Does DTC U2300:xx return? 
      Yes No
      INSTALL a new EPAS gear.
      REFER to the Power Steering article.
      ORDER a replacement EPAS gear and INCLUDE the RVC on the form.
      If this is a Ford paid repair, INCLUDE the RVC on the warranty claim form.
      The condition causing the DTC is not present at this time.
