Pinpoint Test Z : DTC P1001, P1501

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    The TCM only runs the KOER test when the it confirms the vehicle is in park or neutral and there is no vehicle speed indicated.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    TCM P1001:00 KOER Not Able to Complete, KOER Aborted: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the TCM aborted a self-test due to the vehicle not being in park or neutral, or a vehicle speed greater than 5 mph (8 km/h) during the self-test.
    TCM P1501:00 Vehicle Speed Sensor Out Of Self Test Range: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the TCM detected a vehicle speed greater than 5 mph (8 km/h) during a self-test.

    Possible Sources 

    • Incomplete or incorrect PMI of the TCM.
    • TR sensor concern
    • VSS concern

  2. Z1 CHECK CORRECT GEAR STATE IS ACHIEVED

    • Connect the diagnostic tool.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Access the TCM and monitor the TR_CORRECTEDPID

    • Select DRIVE.

    • Select PARK.

    Does PID TR_CORRECTED match the selected gear position? 

    Yes  GO to  Z2
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test C 

  3. Z2 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (CMDTCs) from all modules.

    Are any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to transmission range or vehicle speed present? 

    Yes  RESOLVE any transmission range or vehicle speed related diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first.
    No  GO to  Z3

  4. Z3 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) P1001, P1501

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the DTC.

    • Wait 10 seconds.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.

    Is DTC P1001 and/or P1501 present? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new TCM. REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . CARRY OUT the transmission strategy download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download .
    No  The concern is not present at this time. It might have been caused by attempting a self-test while in gear and/or moving.
