Pinpoint Test Al : DTC U0146

  1. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    The TCM communicates with the GWM over HS-CAN1.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    TCM U0146:00 Lost Communication With Serial Data Gateway "A": No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the TCM did not receive messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN for longer than 5 seconds.

    Possible Sources 

    • Network communication concern
    • TCM
    • GWM

  2. AL1 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the GWM self-test.

    Are any GWM diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) present? 

    Yes  RESOLVE those diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first. REFER to: Communications Network .
    No  GO to  AL2

  3. AL2 CHECK FOR CHARGING SYSTEM RELATED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

    Are any battery voltage related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the charging system. REFER to: Charging System - 2.7L EcoBoost (238kW/324PS)/3.5L EcoBoost (272kW/370PS) .
    No  GO to  AL3

  4. AL3 RECHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    • Road test the vehicle.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.

    Is DTC U0146 still present? 

    Yes  GO to  AL4
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

  5. AL4 CHECK FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) U0146 SET IN OTHER MODULES

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve the Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs) from all modules.

    Is DTC U0146 set in other modules? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new GWM. REFER to: Gateway Module A (GWM) .
    No  INSTALL a new TCM. REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) . PROGRAM the TCM with the latest calibration level. CARRY OUT the transmission strategy download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download .
