Turbocharger Oil Supply Tube: Installation

  1. Lubricate the new turbocharger oil supply tube O-ring seals with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .

    1. NOTE: Do not use any brushes, damage to sealing area will result in leaks and possible internal turbo bearing damage.

      Use brake cleaner on a lint free rag to remove the O-ring residue out of the turbocharger tube to turbocharger O-ring bore and the turbocharger tube to engine O-ring bores. Inspect the area for deep scratches and gouges. Install new components if needed.

    2. NOTE: Carefully, fully seat the turbocharger oil supply tube O-rings into the turbocharger and engine bore holes prior to fastener tightening, to prevent oil tube damage.

      Install the new turbocharger oil supply tube, then install the turbocharger oil supply tube bolts finger tight.

    3. Tighten the turbocharger oil supply tube bolt at the turbocharger.

      Material: Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  2. Tighten the turbocharger oil supply tube bolt at the engine.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  3. Install a new turbocharger coolant return tube O-ring seal. Lubricate the new O-ring seal and the tube sealing surface with clean engine coolant. Refer to: Specifications .

  4. Lubricate the turbocharger coolant tube rubber gasket with clean engine coolant. Refer to: Specifications .

    1. NOTE: Do not use a metal brush damage to sealing area will result in leaks.

      Carefully use a nylon brush to remove the old O-ring residue, use brake cleaner to rinse the O-ring residue out of the turbocharger tube to engine O-ring bore. Inspect the area for deep scratches and gouges. Install new components if needed.

      Material: Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B

    2. Install the outer half of the turbocharger coolant return tube, then install and tighten the turbocharger coolant return tube bolt.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  5. Install the engine lifting eye, then install and tighten the bolts.

    Torque: 17 lb.ft (23 Nm)

  6. Attach the harness retainer to the engine lifting eye.

  7. Install the valve bracket, then install and tighten the bolts.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  8. Attach the valve to the bracket.

  9. Attach the wiring harness bracket to the rear engine lifting eye and to the transmission case.

  10. If equipped, attach the vacuum tube retainers.

  11. Install the lower turbocharger heat shield, then install and tighten the bolts.

    Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  12. Install the right fender splash shield. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .
  13. Install the engine rear undershield. Refer to: Engine Rear Undershield .
  14. Check and top off the engine oil level as needed. Refer to: Specifications .
  15. Fill the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
