Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System Module: Removal

- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Remove the following items:
- Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
- Remove the fender splash shield. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .
- Remove the exhaust pressure sensor. Refer to: Exhaust Pressure Sensor .
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
- Remove the engine appearance cover.
- Remove and discard the fastener. Position aside the bracket and fuel tube assembly.

- Disconnect EGR temperature sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the wiring retainer.
- Remove the retainer from the timing belt cover.
- Remove the retainers and the EGR outlet tube.
- Remove and discard the outlet gaskets.
- Using a holding device, hold the steering wheel in the straight ahead position.
- Remove and discard the bolt. Disconnect and position aside the lower steering shaft.
- Release the clamp and disconnect the coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

- If equipped, disconnect the electrical connector and the emission system control hose.
- Disconnect the wire retainers from the oil level indicator.

- If equipped, disconnect the electrical connector and the emission system control hose.
- Disconnect the wire retainers from the oil level indicator.
- Detach the retainers and disconnect the coolant hose connector.
- Remove the oil level indicator.

- Remove the stud bolt.
- Remove the bolt.

- Detach the retainer.
- Detach the retainer.
- Remove the fastener.
- Pull the oil level indicator tube upwards to remove.
- Inspect the O-ring seal and replace if necessary.
- Remove the pin-type retainer. Remove the bolts and the transmission housing cover.
- If equipped, remove the bolts and the underbody shield.
- If equipped, remove the bolts and the skid plate.
- Disconnect the block heater electrical connector and the retainer.
- Remove the lower radiator coolant tube bolt.

NOTE: Lower radiator coolant tube removed for clarity.
- Remove the hose clamp and position the aside hose. Remove the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Remove the heater coolant outlet tube.
- Inspect the O-ring seal and replace if necessary.

- Release the clamp and disconnect the coolant bypass hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Remove the bolts and the coolant bypass tube.
- Inspect the O-ring seal and replace if necessary.
- Remove the EGR cooler inlet tube bolts.

- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the stud bolt.
- Remove the bolts and EGR cooler assembly.
- Remove and discard the inlet tube gasket.
- Inspect the grommet and replace if necessary.

NOTE: The removal of the EGR coolant inlet tube is only necessary if the EGR system module is being replaced.
Remove the bolt and the EGR coolant inlet tube.
- Inspect the O-ring seal and replace if necessary.
