Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System Module: Installation

NOTE: Make sure that the mating surfaces are clean and free of foreign material.
  1. Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine coolant.

  2. Install the EGR coolant inlet tube and the bolt.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  3. Lubricate the grommet with clean engine coolant.

  4. Install a new inlet tube gasket.

    1. Install the EGR cooler assembly and hand tighten the bolts at this stage.
    2. Hand tighten the stud bolt at this stage.
    3. Hand tighten the bolt at this stage.

  5. Install the EGR cooler inlet tube bolts hand tight.

  6. Tighten the bolts and the stud bolt for the EGR cooler assembly.

    1. Torque

      : 17 lb.ft (23 Nm)

    2. Torque

      : 17 lb.ft (23 Nm)

    3. Torque

      : 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  7. Tighten the EGR cooler inlet tube bolts.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  8. Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine coolant.

    1. Install the coolant bypass tube and bolts.

      Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    3. Position the coolant bypass hose and the clamp. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  9. Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine coolant.

  10. Install the heater coolant outlet tube.

    Torque: Bolt 1: 71 lb.in (8 Nm) Bolt 2: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  11. Position back the heater coolant outlet hose. Remove the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  12. Install the lower radiator coolant tube bolt.

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

  13. Connect the block heater electrical connector and the retainer.

  14. If equipped, install the skid plate and the bolts.

    Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

  15. If equipped, install the underbody shield and the bolts.

    Torque: M8 bolt: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm) | M6 bolt: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

  16. Install the transmission housing cover and the bolts. Install the pin-type retainer.

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

  17. Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine oil.

    Material: Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 F-150 Diesel Motor Oil / XO-5W30-QFA (WSS-M2C214-B1)

    1. NOTE: Make sure the oil level indicator tube is inserted correctly.

      Insert the oil level indicator.

    2. Install the fastener.

      Torque: 17 lb.ft (23 Nm)

    3. Attach the retainer.
    4. Attach the retainer.

    1. Install the stud bolt.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  18. Install the oil level indicator.

    • If equipped, connect the wire retainers to the oil level indicator.

    • Connect the electrical connector and the emission system control hose.

    • If equipped, connect the wire retainers to the oil level indicator.

    • Connect the electrical connector and the emission system control hose.

  19. Connect the coolant hose connector and the retainers.

  20. Position back the coolant hose and the clamp. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  21. WARNING: Install a new steering column shaft bolt. Reuse could result in bolt failure and loss of vehicle control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).

    Position back the lower steering shaft and install the new bolt.

    Torque: All models except Raptor: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm) Raptor: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  22. Remove the steering wheel holding tool.

    1. Using new gaskets, install the EGR outlet tube and the bolts.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    2. Install the retainer in the timing belt cover.

      Torque: 31 lb.in (3.5 Nm)

    3. Connect the wire retainers.
    4. Connect the EGR temperature sensor electrical connector.

  24. Position the bracket and fuel tube assembly and install the fastener.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  25. Install the following items:

    1. Install the exhaust pressure sensor. Refer to: Exhaust Pressure Sensor .
    2. Install the fender splash shield. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .
    3. Install air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .

  26. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  27. Fill the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
