Reductant Tank Draining: Draining

NOTE:
Selective Catalyst Reduction (SRC)/Reductant system components are very sensitive to external contamination. Any possible measure should be taken to prevent contamination from entering the system while servicing it.
NOTE:
Discard the drained reductant fluid. Always refill the reductant tank with new reductant fluid to avoid reductant system contamination.
NOTE:
Fresh reductant fluid should be the only lubricant used in the assembly of these components. The use of any other lubricant ESPECIALLY PETROLEUM BASED LUBES may cause damage to the system.
NOTE:
Reductant fluid can corrode some metals. Reductant fluid must be stored and transported carefully. Reductant fluid must be disposed of according to local regulations.
NOTE:
Petroleum contamination will cause permanent damage to the reductant system.
- Remove the reductant tank filler cap.
- Using a clean drain hose that is free of contamination, insert the drain hose into the reductant tank filler hose until it stops inside the reductant tank.NOTE: Equipment used to drain the reductant fluid must be clean and not previously used with any petroleum based products to avoid reductant system contamination. Petroleum contamination will cause permanent damage to the reductant system.NOTE: Discard the drained reductant fluid. Always refill the reductant tank with new reductant fluid to avoid reductant system contamination.
- Using a fluid Extractor such as a Deluxe 6-Gallon DEF Extractor, Rotunda 391-24226 or equivalent, drain as much of the reductant fluid as possible from the reductant tank into a suitable container. Discard the drained reductant fluid.
