Particulate Matter Sensor: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
NOTE: The particulate matter sensor module is serviced as an assembly with the particulate matter sensor.
NOTE: Particulate Matter sensor wiring harness routing and position of retainers varies by wheelbase, frame width and length. Typical shown others similar.
NOTE: Do not apply any type of electrical grease or lubricants to the electrical connector.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the particulate matter sensor module.

    • Disconnect the particulate matter sensor module electrical connector and disconnect the wiring retainer.

    • Depress the retainer clips to release the module from the frame.

  3. NOTE: If necessary, lubricate the particulate matter sensor with penetrating and lock lubricant to ease removal.

    Remove the particulate matter sensor and module. Use Special Service Tool: 303-476 (T94P-9472-A) Socket, Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor.

    Material: Motorcraft® Penetrating and Lock Lubricant / XL-1

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
