Block Heater: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  2. Remove the LHF tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
  3. Remove the LH fender splash shield. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .
  4. Remove the generator. Refer to: Generator - 3.0L Power Stroke Diesel .
  5. Remove the bolts and position the coolant inlet tube aside.

    Torque: 1: 71 lb.in (8 Nm) | 2: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  6. Inspect the O-ring seal and replace if necessary.

  7. NOTE: Make sure the block heater wiring is routed and secured away from rotating or hot components.

    Disconnect the block heater electrical connector.

  8. Remove the block heater.

    Torque: 53 lb.ft (72 Nm)

  9. Inspect the O-ring seal and replace if necessary.
