Oil Cooler: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
- Remove the engine appearance cover.

NOTE: The oil filter housing needs a minimum of 1 minute to allow the oil to drain out of the oil filter housing to minimise oil spillage.
Loosen the oil filter cap and let the oil filter drain. Remove the oil filter cap.
- Remove and discard the oil filter O-ring seal.
- Remove and discard the oil filter. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

NOTE: Install the oil filter cap to prevent debris from entering the oil filter housing.
Install the oil filter cap.
- Remove the following items:
- Remove the intake manifold. Refer to: Intake Manifold .
- Remove the LH valve cover. Refer to: Valve Cover LH .
- Remove the bolts and the coolant outlet connector.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Remove and discard the coolant outlet connector gaskets.
- Remove the bolts and the fuel injection pump bracket.
- Remove the LH glow plug harnesses.
- Remove the RH glow plug harnesses.
- Remove the RH front 2 glow plugs.

NOTE: If metal or foreign material is present in the oil cooler, mechanical concerns exist. To diagnose the mechanical concerns refer to ENGINE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .
Remove the bolts and the oil cooler.
- Remove and discard the oil cooler O-rings.
