Engine Mount LH: Removal

4x2/4x4 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.

    Index-mark the hood hinge location to aid in hood installation.

  3. Remove the nuts and the hood.

    1. Release the clip.
    2. Detach and position the hood shock aside.

  5. NOTE: If equipped.

    • Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connector.

    • Detach the wiring harness retainers.

  6. Remove the following items:

    1. NOTE: It is not necessary to separate the air cleaner outlet pipe and the air cleaner, the 2 components can be removed as an assembly.

      Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .

    2. Refer to: Air Cleaner .

  7. Remove the retainers and the radiator top shield.

  8. NOTE: It may be necessary to install washers between the Engine Lifting Bracket and the cylinder head to prevent the Engine Lifting Bracket from contacting the valve cover while supporting the engine.

    • Install Special Service Tool: 303-050 (T70P-6000) Lifting Bracket, Engine.

    • Attach a length of chain and a connecting link to the special tool.

    • Install Special Service Tool: 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine.

    • Attach the chain installed in the previous step to the hook on the special tool.

  10. NOTE: If equipped.

    Remove the bolts and the underbody shield.

  13. Remove the exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe bolts and separate.

    • Clean and inspect the mating surfaces.

  14. NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts or damage to the transmission mount can occur.

    Loosen the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts.

  15. NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing the engine mount nuts, stud bolts or damage to the engine mount can occur.

    Remove and discard the RH engine mount nuts and studs.

  16. Remove the front drive shaft. Refer to: Front Driveshaft .

  17. NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening the engine mount through bolts or damage to the engine mount-to-cylinder block bracket can occur.

    Remove and discard the LH engine mount through bolt.

  18. Using the special tool, raise the LH side of the engine 50 mm (2 in).

  19. Using a holding device, hold the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.

    1. WARNING: Install a new steering column shaft bolt. Reuse could result in bolt failure and loss of vehicle control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).

      Remove and discard the steering column shaft bolt.

    2. Separate the steering column shaft U-joint from the steering gear.

  21. Remove the steering gear boot.

  22. Using an adjustable stand, support the front axle. Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

  23. Remove and discard the lower front axle carrier mounting bushing bolt.

  24. Remove and discard the axle shaft housing carrier bushing nut and the bolt.

  25. NOTE: After loosening the bolt, it may be necessary to reposition the axle assembly to prevent interference with the steering components when removing the bolt.

    Remove and discard the upper front axle carrier mounting bushing nut and the bolt.

  26. Using an adjustable stand, lower the axle to allow clearance for the engine mount to be removed. Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

  27. NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the engine mount-to-frame bolts or damage to the engine mount-to-frame nut plate can occur.

    Remove and discard the LH engine mount-to-frame bolts.

  28. Remove the LH engine mount.

    1. Inspect the engine mount-to-frame nut plate for thread damage.
    2. If the nut plate is damaged, remove and discard the engine mount-to-frame nut plate.

  30. Remove the bolts and the LH engine mount-to-cylinder block bracket.

    • Discard the bolts.

    • Clean the engine mount-to-cylinder block and engine mount-to-frame mating surfaces of any dirt or foreign material prior to installation.
