High-Pressure Fuel Pump: Removal

NOTE:
Do not loosen any fittings or plugs on the high-pressure fuel pump.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Remove the engine appearance cover retainers, release the engine appearance cover from the rear retainers and then remove the engine appearance cover.
- Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump electrical connector.

- Disconnect the secondary latch and position out of the way.
- Disconnect the spring lock coupling and then disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump supply line. Refer to: Spring Lock Couplings .
- Remove and discard the high-pressure fuel pump to fuel rail high-pressure fuel tube retaining bolts. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel pump to fuel rail high-pressure fuel tube flare nuts, then remove and discard the high-pressure fuel pump to fuel rail high-pressure fuel tube.
- Detach the hose retainer.

NOTE: Alternately loosen the high-pressure fuel pump bolts one complete revolution at a time.
Remove and discard the high-pressure fuel pump bolts, then remove the high-pressure fuel pump.
- Remove and discard the high-pressure fuel pump O-ring seal.
- Remove the high-pressure fuel pump roller tappet.
- Inspect the high-pressure fuel pump roller tappet. If any flat spots or scoring are found, especially in the indicated areas, then inspect the high-pressure fuel pump and the high-pressure fuel pump roller tappet drive lobe. Install new components as needed.
- Loosen the high-pressure fuel pump mounting plate bolt and then remove the mounting plate.
- Remove any dirt or foreign material from the high-pressure fuel pump bolt holes.
