Engine Mount LH: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Ford F-150. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Use care when positioning the front axle housing or the vacuum lines to the axle solenoid may become disconnected or damaged.
NOTE: Discard all engine mount fasteners and install new fasteners.

4x2/4x4 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.

    Index-mark the hood hinge location.

  3. Remove the nuts and the hood.

    1. Release the clip.
    2. Detach and position the hood shock aside.

  5. Remove the engine appearance cover retainers, release the engine appearance cover from the rear retainers and then remove the engine appearance cover.

  6. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
  7. Remove CAC intake pipe. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Intake Pipe .
  8. Remove CAC outlet pipe. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Outlet Pipe .
  9. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to: Intake Manifold .
  10. Remove the right rear ignition coil. Refer to: Ignition Coil-On-Plug .
  11. Install the special tools. Install Special Service Tool: 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine, 303-1246 Engine Spreader Bar, 303-1654 Lift Eyes.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    • If equipped, remove the bolts.

    • Release the retainer and remove the transmission housing cover.

  12. NOTE: Vehicles come with an underbody shield or a skid plate.

    • If equipped, remove the pin-type retainers.

    • Remove the bolts and the underbody shield.

  14. If equipped, remove the front driveshaft. Refer to: Front Driveshaft .
  15. NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    Remove and discard the LH catalytic converter flange nuts.

    Remove and discard the RH catalytic converter flange nuts.

    • NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
      NOTE: Support the exhaust intermediate pipe prior to removing the bolts or damage to the flex pipe may occur.

      Remove the exhaust flange bolts and separate the pipe.

    • Position the catalytic converter assembly back.

  17. NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts or damage to the transmission mount can occur.

    Loosen the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts.

  18. NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening or tightening the engine mount through bolts or damage to the engine mount-to-cylinder block bracket can occur.

    Remove and discard the RH engine mount through bolt.

    Remove and discard the LH engine mount through bolt.

  20. Raise the engine approximately 30 mm (1.18 in).
  21. NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the engine mount-to-frame bolts or damage to the engine mount-to-frame nut plate can occur.

    Remove and discard the 3 LH engine mount-to-frame bolts.

  22. Using a holding device, hold the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.

    1. WARNING: Install a new steering column shaft bolt. Reuse could result in bolt failure and loss of vehicle control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).

      Remove and discard the steering column shaft bolt.

    2. Separate the steering column shaft U-joint from the steering gear.

  23. Remove the steering gear boot.

  24. Using an adjustable stand, support the front axle. Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

  25. Remove and discard the lower front axle carrier mounting bushing bolt.

  26. Remove and discard the axle shaft housing carrier bushing nut and the bolt.

  27. NOTE: After loosening the bolt, it may be necessary to reposition the axle assembly to prevent interference with the steering components when removing the bolt.

    Remove and discard the upper front axle carrier mounting bushing nut and the bolt.

  28. Using an adjustable stand, lower the axle to allow clearance for the LH engine mount to be removed. Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

  29. Remove the LH engine mount.

    1. Inspect the engine mount-to-frame nut plate for thread damage.
    2. If the nut plate is damaged, remove and discard the engine mount-to-frame nut plate.

  30. NOTE: If necessary, the following 4 steps are to remove the LH engine mount-to-cylinder block bracket.

    Detach the generator wiring harness from the oil filter adapter.

  33. Remove the bolts and the LH engine mount-to-cylinder block bracket. Discard the bolts.
