Upper Intake Manifold: Installation

NOTE: If the engine is repaired or replaced because of upper engine failure, typically including valve or piston damage, check the intake manifold for metal debris. If metal debris is found, install a new intake manifold. Failure to follow these instructions can result in engine damage.

Inspect the intake manifold for damage or metal debris.

Install the new upper intake manifold gaskets.

Install the upper intake manifold and tighten the bolts in sequence shown below.
Torque: Stage 1: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) | Stage 2: 45°

Install a new exhaust manifold tube gasket.

Install the EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube bolts finger tight.

- Install new EGR tube O-ring seal and gasket.
- Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine oil.

1. Install the EGR tube and the bolts finger tight.
2. Install the EGR tube to EGR valve bolts finger tight.

1. Tighten the EGR tube bolts.
  Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
2. Tighten the EGR tube to EGR valve bolts.
  Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

- Install the hoses, EGR transducer and the bolt.
  Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
- Connect the EGR transducer electrical connector.

1. Tighten the EGR valve bracket bolts.
  Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
2. Tighten the EGR valve bracket nut.
  Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

Tighten the EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube bolts.
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

Attach the coolant hose retainers to the intake manifold.

Connect the PCV tube quick connect coupling to the intake manifold.

1. Install the upper intake manifold support bracket bolt.
  Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
2. Connect the brake vacuum tube quick release coupling to the intake manifold. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
3. Connect the throttle body electrical connector and wire harness retainer.

- Connect the MAP sensor electrical connector.
- Attach the wiring harness retainers.

- Position and attach the EVAP canister purge valve.
- Attach the EVAP canister purge valve tube retainer to the intake manifold.
- Connect the EVAP canister purge valve tube quick connect coupling to the intake manifold.

Position the crankcase vent tube towards the intake manifold.

Install the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
