Overdrive Clutch Hydraulic Circuits Applied In 4th, 5th And 6th Gear
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Ford F-150. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
In 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gear, the D2 Latch valve directs a small amount of fluid from the PUMP circuit the CL EXH circuit. When SSD is hydraulically off and the Manual Valve is in DRIVE, CLE circuits are filled with fluid from the CL EXH circuit under low pressure, (21kPa/ 3 PSI). This keeps air out of the CLE circuit resulting in a smooth shift into 4th gear.
