Cooler Bypass Valve - 3.3L Duratec-V6: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in N, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the transmission fluid tube secondary latches.

  3. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Using the special tool, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tubes. Use Special Service Tool: 307-569 Disconnect Tool TOC Line (1/2).

  4. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Remove the bolt and disconnect the cooler bypass valve-to-transmission tube.

  5. Inspect the cooler bypass valve to be sure the transmission fluid tube seal and backing ring were removed with the transmission fluid tube and are not stuck in the cooler bypass valve. If the transmission fluid tube seal or backing ring are stuck in the cooler bypass valve, remove the seal and backing ring.

  6. Remove the bolts and the cooler bypass valve.

  7. Remove and discard the cooler bypass valve O-ring seal.
