Turbocharger RH: Installation

  1. Install a NEW turbocharger end coolant supply tube O-ring seal. Lubricate the NEW O-ring seal with clean engine coolant. Refer to: Specifications .

  2. NOTE: Carefully use a nylon brush to remove the old O-ring residue and use brake cleaner to rinse the O-ring residue out of the turbocharger O-ring bore. Inspect the area for deep scratches and gouges. DO NOT USE A METAL BRUSH; DAMAGE TO SEALING AREA WILL RESULT IN LEAKS.

    If removed, install the turbocharger coolant supply tube, then install and tighten the turbocharger coolant supply tube bolt.

    Material: Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  3. Install the NEW turbocharger exhaust flange gasket.

  4. If removed, install and tighten the turbocharger mounting stud.

    Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

  5. Install the NEW turbocharger gasket.

  6. Install a NEW turbocharger coolant supply tube O-ring seal and lubricate with clean engine coolant. Refer to: Specifications .

  7. NOTE: Carefully use a nylon brush to remove the old O-ring residue and use brake cleaner to rinse the O-ring residue out of the turbocharger tube to engine O-ring bore. Inspect the area for deep scratches and gouges. DO NOT USE A METAL BRUSH; DAMAGE TO SEALING AREA WILL RESULT IN LEAKS.
    NOTE: Install the turbocharger coolant supply tube to the engine block while installing the turbocharger.

    Install the turbocharger, then loosely install the turbocharger bolt and nut. Install the turbocharger coolant supply tube to the engine block while installing the turbocharger.

  8. Install and tighten the turbocharger mounting stud.

    Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

  9. Loosely install the lower left turbocharger nut.

  10. Tighten the turbocharger bolt.

    Torque: 44 lb.ft (60 Nm)

    1. Tighten the turbocharger nut.

      Torque: 44 lb.ft (60 Nm)

    2. Tighten the turbocharger nut.

      Torque: 27 lb.ft (37 Nm)

  11. Re-tighten the turbocharger bolt.

    Torque: 44 lb.ft (60 Nm)

    1. Re-tighten the turbocharger nut.

      Torque: 44 lb.ft (60 Nm)

    2. Re-tighten the turbocharger nut.

      Torque: 27 lb.ft (37 Nm)

  12. Install and tighten the turbocharger coolant supply tube bolt.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)

  13. Install the NEW turbocharger oil return tube-to-engine block gasket.

  14. Install a NEW turbocharger oil return tube O-ring seal, then lubricate with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .

  16. Connect the turbocharger wastegate control hose and clamp.

  17. Install a NEW turbocharger coolant return tube O-ring seal and lubricate the NEW O-ring seal with clean engine coolant. Refer to: Specifications .

    Install the turbocharger coolant return tube to the turbocharger, then install and tighten the turbocharger coolant return tube bolt.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    • Apply high temperature nickel anti-seize lubricant to the turbocharger exhaust flange studbolt threads.

    • Install and tighten the turbocharger exhaust flange studbolts.

      Material: Motorcraft® High Temperature Nickel Anti-Seize Lubricant / XL-2

      Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

  19. Install and evenly tighten the turbocharger exhaust flange nuts.

    Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

  20. Install the NEW turbocharger oil supply tube O-ring seals and the NEW turbocharger oil supply tube oil filter. Lubricate the NEW turbocharger oil supply tube O-ring seals with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .

  21. NOTE: Carefully use a nylon brush to remove the old O-ring residue and use brake cleaner to rinse the O-ring residue out of the turbocharger tube to turbocharger O-ring bore and the turbocharger tube to engine O-ring bore. Inspect the area for deep scratches and gouges. DO NOT USE A METAL BRUSH; DAMAGE TO SEALING AREA WILL RESULT IN LEAKS.
    NOTE: When installing the turbocharger oil supply tube into the engine block, use care not to damage the NEW turbocharger oil supply tube oil filter.

    Install the turbocharger oil supply tube, then install and tighten the turbocharger oil supply tube bolts.

    Material: Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  22. Install the right charge air cooler (CAC) intake pipe. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Intake Pipe .
  23. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe RH. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe RH .
  24. Install the right front fender splash shield. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .
  25. If equipped, install the skid plate or splash shield, then install and tighten the bolts.

    Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

  26. If equipped, install the transmission housing cover, then install and tighten the retainers.

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

  27. Fill the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  28. Install the engine appearance cover, then install and tighten the engine appearance cover retainers.

    Torque: 42 lb.in (4.8 Nm)

  29. Check and top off the engine oil level as needed. Refer to: Specifications .
  30. Start and check for leaks.
