Intake Manifold: Removal

NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
    1. Remove the nuts.

      Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    2. Slide the engine appearance cover out of the retaining bracket.

    • If the engine appearance cover stud bolts are loosened or removed, they must be installed/tightened into the intake manifold.

      Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

  2. Remove the following items:

    1. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe RH .
    2. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe LH .
    3. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Outlet Pipe .

    1. Disconnect the vacuum tube quick release coupling. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING . .
    2. Disconnect the crankcase vent tube quick release coupling. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING . .

    1. Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector.
    2. Detach the wiring harness retainers.
    3. Detach the wiring harness retainer.
    4. Detach the vacuum harness retainers.
    5. Disconnect the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor electrical connector.
    6. Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector.

    1. Remove the bolts and the engine appearance cover bracket.

      Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

    2. Remove the bolts and position the coolant pipe aside.

  3. Detach the wiring harness connector retainers.

    1. Remove the nut.

      Torque: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)

    2. Release the clamps and remove the differential pressure feedback EGR sensor.

    1. Disconnect the ignition coil-on-plug electrical connector.
    2. Detach the wiring harness retainer.
    3. Remove the stud bolt and the ignition coil-on-plug.

      Torque: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)

  4. Remove the EGR tube bolts.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    1. Remove the EGR tube nuts.
    2. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors.
    3. Detach the engine wiring harness retainer.

  5. Remove the bolts and the EGR valve assembly.

    • Remove and discard the gasket.

    • Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces.

  6. Remove and discard the EGR tube gasket.

    1. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve electrical connector.
    2. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve quick release couplings. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING . .
    3. Lift the EVAP canister purge valve up and remove the EVAP canister purge valve.

    1. Loosen the intake manifold bolts.
    2. Position the intake manifold toward the front of the engine.
    3. Detach the wiring harness retainers from the rear of the intake manifold.

  7. Remove the intake manifold.

    • Remove and inspect the gaskets, replace as necessary.

    • Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces.
