Selector Lever Cable - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6R80, Vehicles With: Column Shift: Removal

- Prior to replacing the selector lever cable for a no start or high shift effort concern, verify the selector lever cable to bracket clip is fully seated at the transmission and selector lever assembly. Unseated cables can cause selector lever cable binding and prevent the manual shaft from completely returning to the P position.
Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)
- With the vehicle in N, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Remove the steering column shrouds. Refer to: Steering Column Shrouds .
- Position the selector lever in D.

Lower the steering column opening trim panel.
- Disconnect the electrical connector(s).

NOTE: Push button start vehicle shown, all others similar.
Remove the screws and the steering column opening trim panel.
- Remove the bolts and the steering column reinforcement panel.
- Remove the selector cable retainer bolt.

NOTE: Do not pull or pry on the selector lever cable or the selector lever cable end may be damaged. Use a screwdriver and turn the screwdriver as shown below to pry the cable end off the post as close to the post as possible.
Using a screwdriver, disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector lever mechanism and the steering column.
- Remove the screw and position the instrument panel lower center finish panel aside.
- Push the rubber grommet and the selector lever cable through the floor pan.
- Clean the cable adjuster lock.

NOTE: To prevent selector lever cable damage, do not apply force to the selector lever cable between the manual control lever and the selector lever cable bracket.
Rotate the cable adjuster lock upward and disconnect the selector lever cable from the manual control lever.
- Remove the selector cable retainer bolt and disconnect the cable from the routing clip.
- Disconnect the selector lever cable retainer from the bracket and remove the selector lever cable.
