Valve Cover LH: Installation

NOTE: Verify that the fuel injector-to-valve cover seal is squarely seated in the valve cover.
Using a 22 mm (0.866 in) socket or equivalent, install the new fuel injector-to-valve cover seals.
- Install the new valve cover gasket.

NOTE: Failure to install the fuel injectors during the valve cover installation may result in engine failure.NOTE: The valve cover will have to be tightened a second time after the fuel injectors are installed.
Install the LH valve cover and the retainers.
Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

NOTE: Only one fuel injector shown.
Remove and discard the O-rings and the copper combustion gasket.

NOTE: Do not apply engine oil to the fuel injectors.NOTE: If the fuel injector is being reused, make sure to install it in the original location.
Install a new copper combustion gasket, O-ring seal and fuel injector return fuel O-ring on the fuel injectors.

NOTE: Failure to tighten the fuel injector correctly can lead to engine failure.NOTE: Apply clean engine oil to the concave surface of the fuel injector hold-down clamp.
Install the fuel injectors, hold-down clamps and the new fuel injector bolts.
Material: Motorcraft ® SAE 10W-30 Super Duty Diesel Motor Oil / XO-10W30-QSDF (WSS-M2C171-F1)
Torque:
Stage 1: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)
Stage 2: 90 °
- Final tighten the valve cover bolts in the sequence shown.
Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)
- Connect the wire retainer to the rear valve cover stud bolt.
- Connect the wire retainers for the fuel injection harness.
- Connect the wire retainers to the valve cover stud bolts.
- Install the following items:
- Install the LH glow plugs. Refer to: GLOW PLUGS .
- Install the LH fuel rail. Refer to: Fuel Rail .
- Install the LH fuel injectors. Refer to: Fuel Injectors .
