Battery Tray: Removal

Battery Tray - Primary 

  1. Remove the air cleaner. REFER to: Air Cleaner - 6.2L V8. REFER to: Air Cleaner - 6.8L Triton-30V - V10. REFER to: Air Cleaner - 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel.
  2. Remove the primary battery. REFER to: Battery .
  3. Remove the pushpin, release the retainers and remove the air cleaner upper intake duct.

  4. Detach the battery cable retaining clips from the battery tray. Remove the bolts and the battery tray.

    Torque: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)

  5. If replacing the battery tray, remove the bolts and the air cleaner lower intake duct.

    Battery Tray - Secondary 

    NOTE: 6.7L diesel vehicle show, other vehicles similar.
  6. Remove the secondary battery. REFER to: Battery .
  7. For 4WD vehicles, detach the vacuum lines from the degas bottle.

  8. Detach the battery cable from the degas bottle.

  9. WARNING: Always allow the engine to cool before opening the cooling system. Do not unscrew the coolant pressure relief cap when the engine is operating or the cooling system is hot. The cooling system is under pressure; steam and hot liquid can come out forcefully when the cap is loosened slightly. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

    Remove the degas bottle filler cap.

  10. NOTE: Charge air cooler pipes not shown in illustration for clarity.

    Clamp the lower degas bottle hose and syphon the coolant from the degas bottle.

    Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp(s)

    Use the General Equipment: Fluid Suction Gun

  11. Remove the retaining clip from the lower hose, release the upper hose clamp and detach the coolant hoses from the degas bottle.

  12. For 6.7 diesel vehicles, remove the CAC bolts.

    Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

  13. NOTE: For 6.7 diesel vehicles, position the charge air cooler before removing the battery tray.

    Remove the bolts and the battery tray.

    Torque: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)
