Front Seat Backrest Cover: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Ford F-150. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats equipped with seat side airbags cannot be repaired. A new trim cover must be installed. Cleaning is permissible. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side airbag deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE: Driver seat shown, passenger seat similar.

All seats 

  1. Remove the front seat. Refer to: Front Seat .

    Manual seat with manual lumbar 

  2. Adjust the manual lumbar to the fully relaxed position.

    1. Remove the clip and the recline handle.
    2. Remove the clip and the lumbar handle.

  3. Remove the side shield screws.

  4. Remove the side shield.

    1. Firmly grasp the side shield, lift up and out, separating the side shield from the recliner bracket.
    2. From underneath, squeeze the retainers together and pull out on the side shield.
    3. Slide the side shield forward.

  5. Position the manual lumbar assembly cable away from the seat track.

    • Disconnect the cable from the manual lumbar actuator.

    • Detach the cable retainers from the seat track.

    All seats 

  6. Remove the front head restraint guide sleeves. Refer to: Front Head Restraint Guide Sleeve .
  7. Remove the side airbag. Refer to: Side Airbag .
  8. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

  9. Release the wiring harness retainer(s) and position the wiring harness(es) aside.

  10. NOTE: Power seat with power lumbar shown, manual lumbar similar.

    Feed the backrest wiring harness(es) out through the backrest cover opening(s).

    • If equipped, feed the manual lumbar cable out through the backrest cover opening.

  11. If equipped. Remove the front seat backrest blower motor. Refer to: Front Seat Backrest Blower Motor .
  12. If equipped.

    • Disconnect the backrest heater mat electrical connector.

    Multi-contour seat 

  13. Detach the multi-contour seat cushion hose retainer. Release the locking tab and disconnect the hose coupling assembly (Red) from the SCMG.

  14. Feed the multi-contour seat hose assembly out through the backrest cover opening.

    All seats 

  15. Remove the seat backrest cover and foam as an assembly.

    Vehicles with police package 

  16. Open the front seat stab shield pocket.

  17. NOTE: Note the orientation of the stab shield for installation.

    Remove the front seat stab shield.

    All seats 

  18. NOTE: Use care when separating the backrest cover from the hook-and-arrows, or the hooks can be torn from the backrest foam pad.
    NOTE: Base front seat shown, all others similar.
    NOTE: This step is necessary only when installing a new component.

    Remove the seat backrest cover.

    1. Invert the seat backrest cover.
    2. Release the hook-and-arrows.
