Brake Vacuum Pump - 3.0L Power Stroke Diesel: Installation

  1. NOTE: Do not use wire brushes, power abrasive discs or 3M™ Roloc® Bristle Disk (2-in white, part number 07528) to clean the sealing surfaces of the engine block. These tools cause scratches and gouges that make leak paths. They also cause contamination that causes premature engine failure. Remove all traces of the gasket.

    Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .

    Material

    : Motorcraft® Silicone Gasket Remover / ZC-30-A

    Material

    : Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B

    Material

    : Motorcraft® Metal Surface Prep Wipes / ZC-31-B

  2. NOTE: If the brake vacuum pump is not secured within 10 minutes of sealant application, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface prep. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.

    Apply an 8 mm bead of the specified sealant in the location shown.

  3. NOTE: Manually align the brake vacuum pump drive key with the camshaft slot before installation.

  4. Install new gasket.

  5. Install the vacuum pump and finger tighten the bolts.

  6. Install the nut and tighten all the retainers.

    Torque

    : 17 lb.ft (23 Nm)

  7. Connect the vacuum tubes.

    • Install the vacuum control regulator.

    • Connect the vacuum tubes making sure the couplings lock to the brake vacuum pump.

  8. Connect the vacuum control regulator electrical connector.

  9. Install fender splash shield. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .
  10. Lower the vehicle. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  11. Install the turbocharger heat shield, the nut and the bolt.

    Torque

    : Nut : : 53 lb.in (6 Nm) | Bolt :: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)

  12. Install the engine appearance cover.
