Terrain Management System

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Ford F-150. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Terrain Management System optimizes drivability and comfort as well as maximizing traction while operating on different types of terrain. The terrain management system automatically tailors your vehicle configuration for each mode selected. This is accomplished by changing the functionality of the following systems.

The Terrain Management System uses several messages displayed in the message center to inform the driver of current operational status:

It is recommended that terrain management modes that enable the ELD (electronic locking differential) 4H, or 4L modes not be used on dry, hard surfaced roads. Doing so will produce excessive noise, vibration and increase tire wear.
