Differential Carrier - Vehicles With: Electronic Locking Differential (ELD): Assembly

NOTE: Measure the LH side gear thrust washer that was removed. Replace the LH side gear thrust washer with a new thrust washer of the same thickness.

NOTE: Lubricate the differential side gear thrust washer and the side gear journal with axle lubricant.

Position the LH differential side gear thrust washer on the LH differential side gear and install the gear.

Material: Motorcraft® SAE 75W-85 Premium Synthetic Hypoid Gear Lubricant / XY-75W85-QL (WSS-M2C942-A)

NOTE: Replace the RH side gear thrust washer with a new thrust washer (0.864 mm (0.034 in)) thick.

NOTE: Lubricate the differential side gear thrust washer and the side gear journal with axle lubricant.

Position the RH differential side gear thrust washer on the RH differential side gear and install the gear.

NOTE: Lubricate both sides of the differential pinion gear thrust washers with axle lubricant.

NOTE: Make sure the differential pinion gears are 180 degrees apart so they will align correctly with the pinion shaft bore.

Position the differential pinion gears and differential pinion gear thrust washers in the window of the differential case so they mesh with the differential side gear teeth.

Rotate the differential pinion gears to align the differential pinion shaft bore.

Insert the differential pinion shaft, and install a new differential pinion shaft lock bolt finger-tight.

Apply adhesive to the sealing surface of the ring gear.
Material: Retaining Compound / Loctite® 638™ (WSK-M2G349-A8)

NOTE: Tighten the ring gear bolts in a cross pattern.

Install the ring gear and the new ring gear bolts.

Torque: Stage 1: 44 lb.ft (60 Nm) | Stage 2: 90 deg.

Using the general equipment, install the new differential bearings. Use Special Service Tool: 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle, 205-1016 Installer, Differential Bearing.

NOTE: Take extra care not to damage the wiring harness.

NOTE: Install the differential with the tabs on the ELD coil up against the differential bearing cap mounting surface.

Install the differential carrier. Refer to: Differential Carrier .
