Front Door Latch: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Vehicles with power windows 

  1. Remove the front door window control switch. Refer to: Front Door Window Control Switch - Vehicles With: Front Power Windows .
  2. Remove the front door watershield.

  3. Lower the front door window glass to the one quarter down position.

    1. Connect the front door window control switch.
    2. Lower the front door window glass to the one quarter down position.
    3. Disconnect the front door window control switch.

    Vehicles with manual windows 

  4. Remove the front door trim panel. Refer to: Front Door Trim Panel .
  5. Remove the front door watershield.

  6. Lower the front door window glass to the one quarter down position.

    1. Partially install the window regulator handle.
    2. Lower the front door window glass to the one quarter down position.
    3. Remove the window regulator handle.

    All vehicles 

  7. Release the rear retaining clip from front door window glass.

    1. Release the retaining clip from front door window glass. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover
    2. Raise front door window glass enough to release the front door window glass from the retaining clip.

  8. Remove the rear window regulator nut adhesive cover.

  9. Position the front door window regulator aside.

    1. Remove the window regulator nuts.

      Torque: 93 lb.in (10.5 Nm)

    2. Position the front door window regulator aside.

  10. Remove the exterior front door handle. Refer to: Exterior Front Door Handle .
  11. NOTE: The front door window glass shown in the full up position for clarity.

    Remove the front door latch bolts.

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    Remove the front door window run bolts.

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    Remove the front door latch.

    1. Route the interior front door handle cable and the lock rod through the inner door.
    2. If equipped. Disconnect the power door lock actuator electrical connector.
    3. Disconnect the exterior front door handle cable routing clip(s).
    4. Disconnect the door ajar switch electrical connector.
    5. Remove the front door latch.

  14. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Remove the front door latch and cables from the front door glass run and bracket.

    1. Remove the bolt from the exterior front door handle release cable retaining bracket (if equipped) and the latch.
    2. If equipped, remove the exterior front door handle release cable retaining bracket.
    3. Remove the bolt from the front door latch.
    4. Remove the front door latch from the front door glass run and bracket.
    5. If equipped, remove the front door latch rain shield from the front door glass run and bracket.

  15. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    If equipped, remove the interior door handle release cable retaining bracket from the front door latch.

    1. If equipped, release the interior door handle release cable retaining bracket from the interior door handle release cable mounting bracket.
    2. If equipped, remove the interior door handle release cable retaining bracket from the interior door handle release cable.

  16. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Remove the cables and lock rod.

    1. Remove the lock rod from the latch.
    2. Detach the interior door handle cable from the retaining bracket.
    3. Remove the interior door handle cable from the latch.
    4. Detach the exterior door handle cable from the retaining bracket.
    5. Remove the exterior door handle cable from the latch.
