Selective Catalytic Reduction System Catalyst: Removal

WARNING: When the engine and exhaust system are hot, they can cause severe burns or injury. Turn off the engine and wait until they are cool before removing the exhaust system.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
NOTE: Removal of sensors from the Selective Catalytic Reduction System Catalyst is only required if replacing the Selective Catalytic Reduction System Catalyst. If not replacing the Selective Catalytic Reduction System Catalyst, only disconnection of the sensors is required.
  1. Refer to: Health and Safety Precautions .
  2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  3. Remove Rear Muffler. Refer to: Rear Muffler .
  4. Remove the Particulate Matter sensor from SCR. Refer to: Particulate Matter Sensor .
  5. Remove the Engine NOx sensor from SCR. Refer to: Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) Sensor 12 .
  6. Disconnect NOx sensor.

  7. If equipped with 4WD. Disconnect and position aside the exhaust temperature sensor.

  8. If equipped with RWD. Disconnect and position aside the exhaust temperature sensor.

  9. Remove the bolts from the SCR catalyst hanger.

    Torque: 24 lb.ft (32 Nm)

  10. Remove the Reductant Injector from the SCR. Refer to: Reductant Injector .
    1. Clean and Inspect the gasket surface. Remove and discard the flange bolts, discard gasket.

      Torque: 32 lb.ft (43 Nm)

    2. Remove the SCR assembly from the vehicle.

    1. Remove the hanger from SCR assembly.
    2. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new SCR.

      Remove the exhaust temperature sensors from SCR assembly.

      Torque: 32 lb.ft (44 Nm)
