Transmission Case: Assembly
- Clean and inspect the transmission case for damage or excessive wear. Inspect the bearing, bushing and splined surfaces for damage. Install new components as necessary.
- If equipped, Clean the PTO cover. Install the PTO gasket and cover. Install the new PTO cover bolts.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

NOTE: The bearings must be installed in the transmission case by pressing on the thicker (marked) side of the bearing. When installing the bearing on the special tool, make sure that the thicker (marked) side of the bearing faces the step on the special tool. Failure to press on the thicker (marked) side can result in damage to the bearing.NOTE: 307-648/4 shown in illustration, 307-648/3 similar.
Install new bearings on the special tool with the thicker (marked) side of the bearing facing the step on the special tool.

Install Special Service Tool: 307-648 Remover/Installer, Rear Bearing.

NOTE: The special tool 307-648/3 is used to install the inside bearing and the special tool 307-648/4 is used to install the outside bearing. If the special tool 307-648/3 and special tool 307-648/4 are not used on the correct bearings, damage to the transmission can occur.
Install new bearings on the special tools with the thicker (marked) side of the bearing facing the special tool. Using the special tools 307-648/3/4 and the special tool 204-594, install the inner and outer output shaft bearings.
Install Special Service Tool: 307-648 Remover/Installer, Rear Bearing.
Use Special Service Tool: 204-594 Forcing screw.
- Position the park pawl and install the park pawl pin.
- Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean transmission fluid and install the park pawl pin plug.
Material: Motorcraft ® MERCON ® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-10-QLVC (MERCON ® LV) (WSS-M2C938-A)
Torque: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)
- Install the TR sensor detent spring, and the bolt finger tight.
- Push the park pawl down and install the park pawl actuator rod on the park pawl. Align the TR sensor with the detent spring pin and position the TR sensor in place.

- Push the park pawl down and install the park pawl actuator rod on the park pawl. Align the TR sensor with the detent spring pin and position the TR sensor in place.

- Install a new manual shaft-to-TR sensor roll pin.
Use the General Equipment: Punch
- Tighten the TR sensor detent spring bolt.
Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)
