Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

Power for the solenoids comes from BJB fuse F94. Power is routed through the TSPC (transmission solenoid power control) relay (inside the TCM) to all transmission solenoids. The TCM regulates the current flow through each solenoid circuit. When operating conditions require the solenoid to be electrically off, the TCM reduces current flow in the solenoid circuit to 50mA or less. Some current flow is maintained to monitor circuit performance. When operating conditions require the solenoid to be electrically on, the TCM increases current flow in the solenoid circuit up to 1.0A. By comparing the measured solenoid circuit current to the desired or commanded circuit current, the TCM can determine if the circuit is intact and functioning correctly, open, shorted to ground, or shorted to power. Depending on the type of fault detected, the TCM will usually disable certain gears. For some faults, the TCM will open the TSPC relay. When TSPC relay is open, all solenoids are electrically OFF.
