Pump Assembly and Transmission Fluid Filter Mechanical Operation
The torque converter is supported in the pump by a needle roller bearing. The pump is driven directly from the engine by the torque converter and supplies hydraulic fluid to the transmission and the hydraulic control system.
The fluid pump draws transmission fluid in through the transmission fluid filter from the sump and delivers it at high pressure to the main pressure valve in the main control valve body unit. The main pressure valve adjusts the pressure and returns excess transmission fluid to the transmission fluid sump.
All transmission fluid that is picked up from the transmission fluid pan passes through the transmission fluid filter. The transmission fluid filter and its accompanying seal are part of the fluid path from the pan to the pump.

Vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine and 6R410 transmission may exhibit a noise upon installation of a PTO. The noise (rattle, chatter, etc) only occurs when the PTO is not engaged and goes away with increased engine speed. The noise does not indicate a problem with the PTO or the transmission. It is the result of the engine firing pulses being transferred into the PTO geartrain. The noise will vary between different truck chassis, engines, transmissions and PTO manufacturers due to the stiffness of the systems as well as the variation in the components. It does not affect the performance or durability of the truck or the PTO. This is a normal PTO characteristic and repairs should not be attempted.
