Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Cooler: Removal

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling And Bleeding .
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe and the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe . Refer to: Air Cleaner .
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold. Refer to: Upper Intake Manifold .
  4. Disconnect the coolant hose. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  5. Disconnect the EGR valve coolant vent hose from the EGR valve. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  6. Disconnect the EGR valve electrical connector.

  7. Disconnect the electrical connector and the vacuum hoses from the EGR bypass valve solenoid. Detach the wiring harness retainers.

  8. Remove and discard the EGR valve inlet tube bracket bolts, then remove the EGR valve inlet tube bracket.

  9. Remove the RH upper sound shield retainers and position the RH upper sound shield aside.

  10. Detach the wire harness retainer and position the wire harness out of the way.

  11. Remove the engine wire harness bolts and then position the engine wire harness out of the way.

  12. Remove the bolts and the EGR valve inlet tube.

  13. Remove and discard the EGR valve inlet tube gaskets.

  14. Disconnect the EGRT (exhaust gas recirculation temperature) sensor electrical connector.

  15. Detach the EGRT (exhaust gas recirculation temperature) sensor electrical connector retainer and the wire harness retainer.

  16. Remove the EGR cooler outlet pipe bolts and the EGR cooler outlet pipe.

  17. Remove and discard the EGR outlet pipe gaskets.

    • Remove the exhaust pressure sensor assembly bracket nut.

    • Loosen the exhaust pressure sensor tube assembly flare nut and remove the exhaust pressure sensor tube assembly.

  19. Remove the bolts and then remove the EGR cooler assembly.

  20. Remove and discard the EGR cooler gaskets.
