Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes - 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel, 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6R140: Installation

  1. NOTE: If installing a new transmission fluid cooler tube assembly, mark the location and orientation of the retainers before removal.

    Remove the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly front retainers.

  2. Inspect the transmission fluid tube backing rings and seals for damage and install new backing rings or seals if necessary.

    1. Seal (7D285)

      Material: Motorcraft® MERCON® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-10-QLVC (WSS-M2C938-A) (MERCON® LV,)

    2. Backing ring (7J324)

  3. NOTE: Manipulate the transmission fluid cooler tubes as needed to install. The front part of the tubes are installed individually.

    Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes.

  4. NOTE: Verify the retainers are installed in the correct previously marked orientation and position.

    Install the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly front retainers.

  5. NOTE: If equipped, make sure the spacer is installed between the transmission and the transmission fluid cooler tubes bracket.

    Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes-to-transmission bolt and, if equipped, the spacer.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  6. Connect the transmission fluid cooler tubes to the transmission fluid cooler.

  7. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes secondary latches.

  8. Connect the transmission fluid cooler tubes retainer.

  9. Position the steering damper and install the steering linkage damper bolt.

    Torque: 59 lb.ft (80 Nm)

  10. Position the transmission fluid cooler tubes bracket and install the nut.

    Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

  11. Install the starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .
  12. Install a new oil filter adapter gasket.

  13. Install the oil filter adapter the stud bolt, and the bolts.

    Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  14. Position the wiring harness and install the wiring harness bracket nut.

  15. Connect the oil temperature sensor and oil pressure switch electrical connectors.

  16. Install a new oil filter.

  17. Check the engine oil level and adjust as necessary.
  18. Check the transmission fluid level and adjust as necessary. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Level Check .
