Upper Oil Pan: Removal

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enter the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, may cause engine failure.
- Remove the oil level indicator.

NOTE: Constantly check the clearance between the upper intake manifold and the body.
Using an adjustable stand, raise the engine until a 0.75 in (19.05 mm) punch or chisel will fit between the engine mount and the frame. Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands
- Install a suitable tool between the engine mount and the frame.
- Lower the engine and remove the adjustable stand. Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands
- Remove the nut and position aside the transmission cooler tubes.
- Remove the nut for the engine wire harness.
- Disconnect the coolant hose retainer. Remove the nuts from the front of the engine and position the engine wire harness aside.
- Remove the bolts and the upper oil pan.
- Remove and discard the press-in-place gaskets.
- Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .
