Engine Rear Cover: Removal

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enter the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, may cause engine failure.
- Remove the upper oil level indicator and tube. Refer to: Oil Level Indicator and Tube .

NOTE: The upper oil pan must be removed prior to removing the engine rear cover or engine damage may occur.

- Remove the turbocharger downpipe bracket bolt.

NOTE: Do not use magnetic screwdrivers or other magnetic tools around the CKP sensor and the crankshaft sensor pulse ring or damage to the components may occur.
Disconnect the CKP sensor electrical connector.

NOTE: To prevent engine damage, replace damaged or missing dowel pins before installing the engine rear cover.
Remove the bolts and the engine rear cover.
- Remove and discard the engine rear cover gasket.
- Make sure the mating surfaces are clean and free of foreign material.
