Cylinder Head: Assembly

NOTE: If installing the original valves, make sure the valves are installed in the same position from which they were removed.

NOTE: Apply oil to the outer diameter of the valve and valve tip prior to valve and seal installation. The valve must rotate freely.

Lubricate with clean engine oil and install the valve in the cylinder head.

Material: Motorcraft® SAE 10W-30 Super Duty Diesel Motor Oil / XO-10W30-QSDF (WSS-M2C171-F1)

NOTE: Lubricate the valve seal assembly with clean engine oil prior to installing.

NOTE: The valve seal assembly will not seat completely by hand. The Valve Spring Compressor will seat the valve seal assembly when installing the valve stem keys.

NOTE: Use commercially available valve stem seal pliers.

Lubricate with clean engine oil and install the valve seal.

Install the valve spring.

NOTE: Verify that the valve stem keys are correctly seated after removal of the Valve Spring Compressor or engine damage may occur.

NOTE: Use a small screwdriver and multi-purpose grease to install the valve collets. Check the seating of the valve collets.

Using the special tools, install the valve spring retainer and the valve collets. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1516 Compressor, Valve Spring., 303-300 (T87C-6565-A) Set, Valve Spring Compressor.
