Disassembly And Assembly Of Subassemblies: Piston: Assembly

NOTE: Align the piston-to-connnecting rod orientation marks made during the disassembly.

NOTE: If a new piston or connecting rod is being installed, it can be installed in either direction.

Install the piston to the connecting rod.

Lubricate with clean engine oil and install the piston pin.

Install the piston pin retainers.

NOTE: Lubricate the piston rings with clean engine oil prior to installing.

Install the piston rings in the following sequence.
1. Oil control expander ring.
2. Lower oil control ring.
3. Upper oil control ring.
4. NOTE: For service, the lower compression ring is identified with a green stripe and is installed with the hook feature to the bottom.
  
  Lower compression ring.
5. NOTE: For service, the upper compression ring is identified with a yellow stripe.
  
  Upper compression ring.

NOTE: The arrow on the top of the piston indicates the front of the engine.
1. Center line of the piston parallel to the wrist pin bore.
2. Upper compression ring gap location.
3. Upper oil control ring gap location.
4. Lower oil control ring gap location.
5. Oil control expander ring and lower compression ring gap location.
