Degas Bottle: Removal

WARNING: Always allow the engine to cool before opening the cooling system. Do not unscrew the coolant pressure relief cap when the engine is operating or the cooling system is hot. The cooling system is under pressure; steam and hot liquid can come out forcefully when the cap is loosened slightly. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Vehicles with Secondary Battery 

  1. Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .

    Vehicles without Secondary Battery 

  2. Release the cooling system pressure by slowly turning the degas bottle cap between 2 and 3 turns and remove the degas bottle cap.

    4X4 Vehicles 

    1. Release the tab and position the vacuum solenoid valve aside.
    2. Release the tabs and position the vacuum regulator aside.

    All Vehicles 

  3. Using hose locking pliers, clamp the lower degas bottle hose and siphon the coolant from the degas bottle. Use the General Equipment: Locking Pliers Use the General Equipment: Fluid Suction Gun

    1. Release the clamp and disconnect the coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
    2. Pull the lower coolant hose spring clip until the end of the clip is in the detent on the quick connect coupling and disconnect the lower coolant hose.

  4. Remove the bolts and the degas bottle.

    Torque: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)
