Sector Shaft Arm: Removal

NOTE: RWD sector shaft arm shown. 4WD Similar.
  1. Hold the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position. Use the General Equipment: Steering Wheel Holder

  2. Position the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  3. NOTE: Vehicles equipped with mono-tube axle.
    NOTE: To prevent the front suspension from shifting when the track bar is removed, the front axle must be supporting the vehicle weight.

    On both sides. Position a jackstand under both sides of the front axle assembly and lower the vehicle until the front axle is supporting the vehicle weight.

  4. NOTE: Tighten the track bar-to-frame bolt with the suspension at curb height or damage to the bushing may occur.
    NOTE: Vehicles equipped with mono-tube axle.

    Remove the track bar-to-frame nut and bolt and disconnect the track bar.

    Torque: 406 lb.ft (550 Nm)

  5. NOTE: Vehicles equipped with mono-tube axle.

    Remove the retainers and remove the track bar mounting bracket.

    Torque: 1: 129 lb.ft (175 Nm) 2: 129 lb.ft (175 Nm)

    1. Remove and discard the sector shaft arm drag link cotter pin.
    2. Remove and discard the sector shaft arm drag link nut retainer.

  6. Remove and discard the sector shaft arm drag link nut.

    Torque: 129 lb.ft (175 Nm)

  7. Separate the sector shaft arm drag link from the sector shaft arm. Use Special Service Tool: 211-003 (T64P-3590-F) Remover, Steering Arm.

  8. Remove and discard the sector shaft arm nut.

    Torque: 350 lb.ft (475 Nm)

  9. Remove the sector shaft arm. Use the General Equipment: Two Leg Puller
