Brake Booster: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Remove the brake master cylinder. Refer to: Brake Master Cylinder .
  2. Detach the clips and lower the steering column opening trim cover.

  3. NOTE: Vehicles with push-button start and adjustable pedals shown.

    Disconnect the electrical connectors and detach the wiring harness retainers.

    • Remove the bolts and the steering column opening trim panel reinforcement.

      Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)

    • Remove the tabs and remove the steering column opening trim panel.

  4. NOTE: Do not service the brake pedal without first removing the stoplamp switch. Remove this switch with the brake pedal in the at-rest position. Attempting to remove the switch when the plunger is extended (during pedal apply) results in damage to the switch.

    Remove the stoplamp switch. Refer to: Stoplamp Switch .

  5. Remove the clip.

  6. Remove the pin, washer and separate the brake booster rod from the brake pedal.

  7. NOTE: Tighten the brake booster nuts in a cross-pattern.

    Remove and discard the brake booster nuts.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    1. Disconnect the brake vacuum sensor electrical connector.
    2. Detach the elbow fitting and vacuum tube.

  8. Remove the brake booster.
