Rear Brake Disc: Removal

All vehicles 

  1. Remove the wheel and tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire - Vehicles With: Single Rear Wheels . Refer to: Wheel and Tire - Vehicles With: Dual Rear Wheels .

    Vehicles with dual rear wheels (DRW) 

  2. NOTE: The brake disc is part of the wheel hub on dual rear wheel (DRW) applications.

    Remove the wheel bearing and wheel hub. Refer to: Wheel Hub .

  3. NOTE: This step is only necessary if servicing the brake disc.

    Remove the brake rotor bolts and brake rotor.

    Torque: 114 lb.ft (155 Nm)

    Vehicles with 10.5 inch ring gear axle 

  4. NOTE: Do not pry in the caliper sight hole to retract the pistons as this can damage the pistons and boots.
    NOTE: Do not allow the brake caliper to hang from the brake hose or damage to the hose can occur.

    Remove the bolts and position the brake caliper and anchor plate aside. Discard the bolts.

    Torque: 203 lb.ft (275 Nm)

  5. Remove the brake disc.

  6. Clean the brake disc mating surfaces using a wire brush and the specified material.

    Material: Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B
