Wheel Spindle - F-250 F-350: Removal

NOTE:
Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.
NOTE:
It is not necessary to remove the brake disc and wheel hub assembly when removing the wheel spindle to service the ball joints.
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- If installing a new wheel spindle, remove the brake disc and wheel hub assembly. Refer to: Front Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub - F-250/F-350 .

NOTE: Do not pry in the caliper sight hole to retract the pistons as this can damage the pistons and boots.NOTE: Do not allow the brake caliper to hang from the brake hose or damage to the hose can occur.NOTE: F250 and F350 shown.
Remove the bolts and position the brake caliper and anchor plate aside. Discard the bolts.
Torque: 203 lb.ft (275 Nm)

- Remove the wheel speed sensor wiring harness bracket bolt.
Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)
- Remove the wheel speed sensor bolt and position the wheel speed sensor aside.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Remove the wheel speed sensor wiring harness bracket bolt.

- Remove and discard the tie rod end cotter pin.
- Remove the tie rod end nut retainer.
- Remove the tie rod end nut.
Torque: 85 lb.ft (115 Nm)
- Separate the tie-rod end from the wheel spindle assembly. Use Special Service Tool: 211-003 (T64P-3590-F) Remover, Steering Arm.
- Remove and discard the upper ball joint nut and bolt.
Torque: 66 lb.ft (90 Nm)

NOTE: Do not allow the camber adjustment sleeve to contact the ball joint seal when installing a sleeve, or damage to the ball joint seal may occur.NOTE: All vehicles are built by the assembly plant with a non-adjustable camber/caster sleeve. If service adjuster has been installed, mark position before removal.
Remove the existing adjuster sleeve. Use the General Equipment: Two Leg Puller
- Remove and discard the lower ball joint cotter pin.
- Loosen, but do not remove, the lower ball joint castle nut. Loosen: approximately: 2 turn(s)
- Strike the lower end of the front axle to free the lower ball joint from the axle.
- Remove and discard the lower ball joint castle nut and remove the wheel spindle assembly.
Torque: 98 lb.ft (133 Nm)
