Removal And Installation: Tailpipe: Removal

WARNING: Keep the holes and tabs in the tailpipe free of foreign material or blockage. Do not modify or permanently remove the tailpipe section that contains the holes. Operating the vehicle with plugged or blocked holes or with modifications to the system may result in elevated exhaust gas temperatures, which may burn persons contacted by the exhaust gas. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury to the technician or vehicle occupant(s).
NOTE: Do not modify, install an aftermarket part or permanently remove the tailpipe.
NOTE: Clean all exhaust connections before reassembly.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
NOTE: The configuration of the exhaust system varies depending on wheelbase and frame length. Typical application shown.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the particulate matter sensor. Refer to: Particulate Matter Sensor .
  3. Remove and discard the tailpipe nuts.

    Torque: 41 lb.ft (55 Nm)

  4. Detach the isolators.

  5. Slide the tailpipe assembly off the exhaust isolator and remove the tailpipe assembly.

  6. Remove and discard the gasket.
