The PCM monitors the transmission fluid temperature and sets a DTC if it detects an over temperature condition
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition PCM P1783:00 Transmission Overtemperature Condition: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the transmission fluid temperature was greater than 135 deg. C (275 deg. F) for more than 5 seconds. The failsafe logic will change to a more aggressive TCC lockup strategy to reduce heat. Possible Sources
- Transmission cooling system concern
- TCC stuck off
- TFT sensor fault
- V1 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the DTC from the PCM.
- Access the PCM and monitor PID TFT.
- Road test the vehicle until the transmission fluid temperature stops rising.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the KOEO and KOER PCM self-tests.
Did DTC P1783 return, or did the transmission fluid temperature exceed 135 deg. C (275 deg. F)?
Yes If any diagnostic trouble codes related to the TFT sensor or the TCC are present, RESOLVE those first. Otherwise, REFER to: Transmission Cooling . No The fault is not currently present and may have been caused by an extreme operating condition.
