- Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The PCM uses tire size and axle ratio data stored in the Vehicle Identification (VID) block for shift strategies, TCC strategy, and diagnostics.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition PCM P1635:00 Tire/Axle Out of Acceptable Range: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the tire size, axle ratio or both do not match the information stored in the Vehicle Identification (VID) block. Possible Sources
- Incorrect axle ratio
- Incorrect tire size
- Communication concern
- Incorrect, incomplete or corrupted TCM calibration.
- PCM fault
- Q1 VERIFY THE TIRE SIZE AND AXLE RATIO MATCH THE INFORMATION STORED IN THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION (VID) BLOCK
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the tire size and axle ratio parameters stored in the Vehicle Identification (VID) block.
- Check the size of the tires that are installed on the vehicle.
- Check the axle ratio that is installed in the vehicle.
Do the tire size and axle ratio parameters in the Vehicle Identification (VID) block match the components installed on the vehicle?
Yes GO to Q2 No If possible, update the Vehicle Identification (VID) parameters to match the components installed on the vehicle. REFER to: Module Programming . INSTALL new components as necessary. - Q2 RETRIEVE ALL CONTINUOUS MEMORY DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (CMDTCS)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (CMDTCs) from all modules.
Are any OSS sensor, VSS, or module communication diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) present?
Yes RESOLVE all OSS sensor, VSS and module communication diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first. No GO to Q3 - Q3 PROGRAM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) WITH THE LATEST CALIBRATION
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the PCM.
- Reprogram the original PCM with the latest calibration. REFER to: Module Programming .
- Carry out the transmission strategy download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download .
- Road test the vehicle
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the KOEO and KOER PCM self-tests.
Is DTC P1635 present in the PCM?
Yes Refer to PCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING After programming the new PCM, CARRY OUT the transmission strategy download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download . No The fault is not present at this time. It might have been caused by a corrupt TCM calibration.
