Pinpoint Test P : DTC P1001, P1501

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    The PCM only runs the KOEO and KOER self-tests when the it confirms the vehicle is in park or neutral and there is no vehicle speed indicated.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    PCM P1001:00 KOER Not Able to Complete, KOER Aborted: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the PCM aborted a self-test due to the vehicle not being in park or neutral, or a vehicle speed greater than 5 mph (8 km/h) during the self-test.
    PCM P1501:00 Vehicle Speed Sensor Out Of Self Test Range: No Sub Type Information This DTC indicates the PCM detected a vehicle speed greater than 5 mph (8 km/h) during a self-test.

    Possible Sources 

    • The vehicle was not in park or neutral, or the vehicle was moving when a self-test was commanded.
    • Incomplete or incorrect PMI of the PCM.
    • TR sensor fault
    • VSS fault

  2. P1 CHECK CORRECT GEAR STATE IS ACHIEVED

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, access the PCM and monitor PID TR.

    • While monitoring PID TR, move the selector lever through all the gears, pausing in each gear position.

    • Select PARK.

    Does PID TR match the selected gear position? 

    Yes  GO to  P2
    No  CHECK the adjustment of the selector lever cable. REFER to: Selector Lever Cable Adjustment - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6R140 . If the selector lever cable is properly adjusted, GO to  P2

  3. P2 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from all modules.

    Are any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to the TR sensor, OSS sensor or vehicle speed sensor present? 

    Yes  RESOLVE any TR sensor, OSS sensor, or vehicle speed sensor related diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first.
    No  GO to  P3

  4. P3 PROGRAM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) WITH THE LATEST CALIBRATION

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the PCM.

    • Carry out the KOEO and KOER PCM self-tests.

    Is DTC P1001 and/or P1501 present? 

    Yes  Refer to PCM GUIDED ROUTINE TESTING After programming the new PCM, CARRY OUT the transmission strategy download. REFER to: Transmission Strategy Download .
    No  The concern is not present at this time. It might have been caused by attempting a self-test while in gear and/or moving.
