Drive Pinion Flange and Seal: Removal

NOTE: The front brake pads must be removed for accurate pinion bearing preload drag torque recording and adjustment.
Remove the front brake pads. Refer to: Brake Pads - F-250/F-350 . Refer to: Brake Pads - F-450/F-550 .
- Remove and discard the front driveshaft U-joint to pinion flange retaining strap bolts and retaining straps.
- Index-mark the front driveshaft U-joint to the pinion flange. Position aside and support the front driveshaft.

NOTE: Rotational torque of the drive pinion flange must be measured and recorded using a Nm (lb-in) torque wrench for correct pinion bearing preload when reassembled. This will be the torque-to-turn measurement.
- Using a dial type torque wrench, measure and record the rotational torque of the drive pinion.
- Index-mark the pinion flange and the drive pinion gear.
- Using the special tool, remove and discard the pinion nut. Use Special Service Tool: 205-012 (T57T-4851-B) Holding Fixture, Drive Pinion Flange.
- Using the special tool, remove the pinion flange. Use Special Service Tool: 205-018 (T65L-4851-B) Remover, Drive Pinion Flange.
- Using the special tool, remove and discard the pinion seal. Use Special Service Tool: 307-001 (TOOL-1175-AC) Remover, Bushing., 100-001 (T50T-100-A) Slide Hammer.
- Clean and inspect the pinion flange mating surface and pinion seal surface.
